AIRPORT POLICE OFFICER (2414)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty to protect persons and property and to maintain public order through the enforcement of City, State and Federal laws and regulations as they pertain to the operation and security of the San Jose International Airport. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   Incumbents of this classification are stationed exclusively at the San Jose International Airport and are responsible for Airport security, including the protection of property and maintaining public order at the Airport and surrounding designated property. This classification is part of the Police Department and is supervised by the Police Sergeant classification.

Special Airport Requirement

   This Airport specific classification requires each candidate to satisfactorily complete a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 10-year employment history verification which may include a criminal history records check prior to being considered for a position in this class.

Training and Experience

   Any combination of education, training or experience equivalent to successful graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates

   Successful completion of a Basic POST certified academy and deputization as a Peace Officer may be required within a prescribed time limit after appointment.

   Possession of valid driver's license authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.
